Packaging Your Ideas in Ours

Building a Legacy of Innovation and Customer Success

On the surface, Rand-Whitney is an independent company privately owned by The Kraft Group with a mission to make our customers more successful. At our core, we are a family of innovative problem-solvers with a true loyalty to our people, our customers, and our environment. A promise made by Rand-Whitney is an unparalleled pledge to help customers reach their full potential.

1857

Mrs. Elvira F. Dodge founded E.F. Dodge Paper Box Corp making folding cartons in her home in Leominster, MA.

1938

Whitney Box of Worcester, MA acquired Dodge Paper Box, forming the modern company, Rand-Whitney. From this point on, the company has prided itself on family values as it seeks to provide its employees with a good compensation package and a comfortable work environment.

1970s

Now owned by company president Robert Kraft, Rand-Whitney perfected the technique of combining various coatings to improve the gloss, rub resistance, and “cosmetic” feel of packages. They were recognized as the industry leader in the E and B flute business, which combines the graphic excellence of lithography with the strength and protection of corrugated.

1980s

Rand-Whitney acquired a recycled boxboard mill, enabling it to be self-sufficient in the recycled paperboard grades used by the packaging division. A partnership with a world-class mill provided high-performance raw materials. These interests allow Rand-Whitney’s customers to take full advantage of the growing need for recycled environmentally friendly products.

1990s

Rand-Whitney Containerboard opens as the most environmentally conscious mill of its type. Located in Montville, CT, it produces 100% recycled high-performance linerboard from 100% post-consumer waste and water. Today, the mill supplies Rand-Whitney with a guaranteed supply of recycled paper and plays a key role in their sustainability initiative—Closing the Loop.

2000s

Rand-Whitney Digital Print Center opens in Worcester, MA, offering high-end graphic packaging with virtually no tooling costs. Rand-Whitney Protective Packaging also opens in Worcester, specializing in highly engineered wood, foam, and military-spec packaging. Rand-Whitney Recycling is born, reclaiming customers’ waste to reuse in the production of their boxes.

2010s

Rand-Whitney grew to now include locations in Waterbury, CT, Dover, NH, Pawtucket, RI and Red Lion, PA. New-Indy Containerboard, LLC forms in 2012 as a joint venture between the Kraft Group, LLC and The Schwarz Partners, LP. It then acquires Carolina Container, adding 11 new locations to Rand-Whitney’s extensive network.

Today

Today, Rand-Whitney still operates based on their family values and commitment to put people and the environment first. It continues to master complex packaging challenges by finding customized solutions that drive an unarguable return on investment. Because of this, Rand-Whitney remains the packaging supplier of choice throughout the East Coast.

Strong Family Values for Over a Century

At Rand-Whitney, it’s our people that make us great. Here, partnerships are born out of our mission to make our customers more successful—but that’s just the beginning.
